Ponte Vecchio, Florence, May 2012

The Ponte Vecchio, spanning the Arno River in Florence, Italy.

This latest of several bridges to cross the Arno here at its narrowest point since Roman times, the Ponte Vecchio dates from 1345. Its design has been attributed to Taddeo Gaddi. It was the only bridge in Florence not destroyed by retreating German forces in WWII.
